Hunter x Hunter Hiatus
After briefly resuming regular publication following a long hiatus, Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter manga is set to go on hiatus again after Chapter 420 is released.
According to the latest publication schedule from Weekly Shonen Jump, the manga has been published without a break for two months since Volume 39 was released in Japan on July 3, 2026.
In that schedule, Chapter 417 is set to be released on August 9, 2026. After that, Hunter x Hunter will go on hiatus for one week starting August 16. Chapter 418 will be published on August 23, followed by chapters 419 and 420, which are scheduled for release on September 6, 2026, before the series goes on hiatus again.
Nevertheless, Yoshihiro Togashi has confirmed that work on the story is continuing. In a recent post on his personal X account, the mangaka revealed that he has prepared the manga scripts up to Chapter 430.

"The Hunter x Hunter manga now has the largest backlog of chapters ready for publication in recent years," Togashi wrote on his X account.
Meanwhile, the 2011 anime adaptation of *Hunter x Hunter*, produced by Madhouse, last aired in 2014, concluding the story with the 13th Hunter Chairman Election Arc.
To date, there has been no official announcement regarding the continuation of the anime adaptation. Therefore, the progress of Yoshihiro Togashi’s manga remains the primary focus for fans who have been eagerly awaiting the continuation of Gon and his friends’ adventures for years.

The Return of Gon and Killua
Volume 39 of Hunter x Hunter, released on July 3, also drew attention for bringing back the two main characters, Gon Freecss and Killua Zoldyck, in Chapter 414.
Their appearance came after Kurapika revealed that he has friends he trusts deeply. In that storyline, Kurapika considers asking Gon and Killua for help if Prince Woble is successfully evacuated from the Black Whale ship.
Toward the end of Chapter 414, Kurapika tries to convince Queen Oito to entrust Woble’s safety to the Hunter Association. However, he acknowledges that not all Hunters can be trusted, as each member has different perspectives and interests.
It is at that moment that readers are treated to a flashback featuring Gon and Killua. Many fans believe Togashi intentionally included this scene to once again highlight the close friendship between Kurapika, Gon, and Killua, which has been one of the story’s main strengths since the beginning of the series.
